<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Introduction (problem statement and relevance). The modern diesel engine is one of the most perfect and advanced heat engines, and its energy efficiency increase potential is far from exhausted. However, increasingly stringent environmental and economic requirements for transport powertrains are forcing designers and developers to look for new and improve traditional ways to increase efficiency parameters. First of all, the possibility of improving the engine working process, fuel and air supply, reducing mechanical losses, as well as introduction of electrification and exhaust gas heat utilization are being considered. The relevance of the study is determined by the importance of maintaining modern diesel engine competitiveness in the coming years under the conditions of rapid development of alternative powertrains, reducing explored oil reserves and continuously increasing social concerns about environment protection issues.</p><p>The purpose of the study is to analyze and classify the main methods to increase energy efficiency of modern high-speed transport diesel engines.</p><p>Methodology and research methods. The study uses an analytical research method based on materials published in the open press.</p><p>Scientific novelty and results. The study shows key ways to increase energy efficiency of high-power diesel engines for transport purposes in a systematized form. It also contains an assessment of potential impact of individual methods on specific efficiency parameters of diesel engines.</p><p>Practical significance. The results of the study can be used in refinement of existing, and design of advanced, high-power and high-speed diesel engines.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>дизель</kwd><kwd>энергоэффективность</kwd><kwd>рабочий процесс</kwd><kwd>топливная экономичность</kwd><kwd>вредные выбросы</kwd><kwd>утилизация теплоты отработавших газов</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>diesel engine</kwd><kwd>energy efficiency</kwd><kwd>engine working process</kwd><kwd>fuel economy</kwd><kwd>hazardous emissions</kwd><kwd>exhaust gas heat utilization</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Mollenhauer K., Tschöke H.
