Founded in 1923 under the name “The Byulleten’ Nauchno-avtomotornogo Instituta” the scientific periodical was first published under the original title only in 1923. Then the name was changed several times:

- from issue No. 5 – 1924 to issue No. 11 – 1931 the title of the collection is “Trudy Nauchnogo avtomotornogo instituta”;

- from issue No. 12 – 1931 to issue No. 47 – 1947, the title of the collection is “Trudy NATI”;

- from issue No. 48 – 1947 to the present, the title of the collection is “Trudy NAMI”.

The activities of the FSUE “NAMI” and the publication of the results of the research reflect the main evolution stages of the domestic automotive industry, one of the most important sectors of country economy.

The first executive editor in 1923 was E.A. Chudakov. In subsequent years, the position of the chief (responsible) editor of the collection of scientific articles was occupied by: B.I. Gostev, A.G. Vovk, A.V. Osipyan, M.A. Pashin, A.A. Lipgart, I.S. Lunev, A.M. Khlebnikov, V.A. Anufriev, V.F. Kutenev, A.A. Ipatov, M.V. Nagaytsev.
